Did I tell you we're an EARTH HOUR store? What's that mean? It means once a week we actually turn all our power off. I'm a little late in telling you we celebrated our first EARTH HOUR on EARTH DAY during our Lunch Hour. It was fun. Mind you, we get a lot of light - we have beautiful display windows - the back is kinda dark, but it all works out.
One of the things we did at our store is have the lights rewired to switches so we could have less lights on during the day. We've replaced many of the ballasts. Old ballasts leak carcinogens! They also drain more power. They now make LED replacements - you can even remove the ballasts - they are very expensive - but they last for 50,000 hours, compared to the average 6,500 hours a fluorescent bulb stays alit. They also don't give off that infernal cacaphonic humming noise. HMMMM, where was I?
Sidney, Australia hosted the world's first EARTH HOUR over a year ago and wow, just the folks turning off power for an hour saved over 10% of the energy used that day. If you're wondering, how will we ring people up - we have battery back ups and the computers run on those and safely power down if the power isn't back on in time (a real necessity in a small Midwestern town prone to storms - n'est pas?).
We chose a GREEN company - Creative Imaginations - to purchase some of our products. We stick primarily to independents and Vintage, Funky, Flea Marketey (is that a word), Shabby Chic - but we love Creative Imaginations for their Narratives line, their FFA stuff (farmin's big ya know, tippin' hats to the guys and gals feedin' us), and other fun products.
We RECYCLE - packing materials, boxes, paper, etc. We use chipboard to make stuff, you know we're into flea market finds. YES, I'm a Flea Marketeer. This is our planet, friends, the only one we've got, and if we don't stop global warming, I hear all the Reese's will melt! Now, that's a tragedy.
Make a difference, sort your trash, use your stash, (ohmigosh - did a person opening a store actually tell you that - heck yah - the more you save the more you have to spend!), plan your errands together, carpool (it's way more fun anyhoo), do what you can, your kids will thank you when they pass the Earth on to their kids.
It's not ours anyway, it's borrowed, and we want our scrapbooks to last for GENERATIONS, yah? So, while it's not EASY being green, TRY. I've got a GREEN set of GOODIES to ship out to you in a RECYCLED box, for all of you who list the ways you'll try to go GREEN in the future. Just make a comment - and check back to see who wins on Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
The winner will be chosen at RANDOM. It's only fair.
Your planet thanks ya kindly.

Hi there!! I'm so happy that you'll be going Green!!
What do I do to recycle and be a little green myself you ask??? Well, I save all of my plastic packaging and cardboards and use them in my Big Shot with my die cuts... I make ghost letters and shapes with the plastic and chipboard letters and shapes with the cardboard. I also save my scraps, no matter how miniscule they are and create serendipity paper to use on cards and in layouts... I'm always looking for ways to save!!
Thanks for this opportunity to share!
Have a happy grand opening!

I was so happy to read that you are so committed to being Green!
And Creative Imaginations is so thankful for your support of our product!
I'm with you on the green, I'm a saver of it all! I'm with Denise on the reusables in the Big Shot, I also do a lot with the C-Bug stuff, ask some of my gals that take classes w/me, I save it and use it! Heat your pretty colored plastic bags w/your heat gun, you'd be surprised to see what pretty flowers and stuff you get. I am so tuned and excited....
Congrats on being green!!
What I to to stay green in my craft room might sound a little plain ... but every little thing helps!
I alter tin cans and plastic crystal-lite type containers, I use old toilet paper tubes to wrap lengths of ribbon on.
I use every bit of paper I can and I have a "scrap basket" for the bigger pieces I can use again. For the tiny pieces that are garbage, I have a paper bag that they go in that goes straight into the recycling when I fill it up!
Who says it's not easy being green?
Anna
GREEN is "IN"! I participated in Earth Day challenges making cards w/recycled items. It was eye-opening. We had to make something out of an egg carton! I am good w/recycling but plan to do more. It's amazing the small scraps of paper we use daily that we can recycle.
I recycle everything. My neighbors call me the use it lady. I can't throw anything away that might be useful. If I don't want it, I find someone who does.
I also don't buy anything in over kill packaging. Sorry.
Heard about your blog from a fellow Fiskateer Lisa Falduto! I am sooo excited to hear about your green approach! I just wrote an article for Oh Scrap! about Green Scrapping...too bad I didnt know before my article...I would have mentioned you! BUT, I don't mind doing a follow up article cause I am glad to support Green Businesses!!!
This makes me SO happy. I am very green. My blog is all about being green. And I have a heck of a time justifying my paper loving cardmaking soul with my recycling, reusing, paper scrap saving, green preaching soul.
Anyway, I applaud you whole heartedly. You've made my day!
Hi ! GREAT RAK....At my work, we print scanable labels...well, these labels all are shrunkwrap with a piece of chipboard for support. When they refill the printers, I now get all that chipboard...and pass it on to our LSS...where anyone can use it on the various die cutting machines!
Works well for everyone!
In the future..my new "GREEN" is:
turning off lights for rooms NO ONE is in; saving egg cartons for the farmers to pack their FRESH eggs in for sale; making sure I DO use my scraps for scrapbooking; walk when I can instead of drive; and be concious of what containers my grocery items come in !!
Thanks Again !!

Going Green....
We recycle steel, alumin, and paper. We have the funky engery saving light bulbs. I've started carring my own bag for craft shopping.
I save all my scraps that are at least 1" squared. I do try to use products that are enviormentally friendly. Check out Scrapbooking.com for the article on Going Green.
Thanks Lisa Falduto for pointing me this way!
I currently recycle cans, bottles and aluminum. And want to start recycling paper. I save certain types of bottles to use for candy treats which I decorate for gifts...why buy a new jar when I already have one. I save all my scraps until there's nothing usable left.
Charmaine
well we are totally becoming more & more green:) kids help with the recycling,i constantly reuse glass containers, metal tins, just about everything has a new home.personal fave being matchboxes. who would have thought such a small container would fit brads & other bits in & they glue great with super glue :)by the way, i heard about this blog from Lisa Falduto! so had to check it out ! gota be green,if anything i wana be kermit in my next life LOL.awesome rak too, gota love randomness
That's great that you're going green! :)
I'm green by recycling all that I can, I use solar lights for the garden, and use reusable totes when going shopping :)
Woot!
Ms Lisa F Sent me your way. Can't wait for the online store!
We started the power off for an hour the day they did it world wide. What a great idea. We recycle everything we can, compost, have a certified Backyard Habitat, and are in the process of greening the house.
We're working on going green around here! We recycle paper (lots of it!) and are in the process of replacing our light bulbs with the new energy smart bulbs. We've also starting using carrying bags instead of plastic grocery bags. You are way ahead of us - but at least we're all trying!
what a wonderful thing you are doing and it encourages other businesses to go green also! I recycle as much as I can. I save all the newspapers, plastic bags, tin cans, plastic bottles, etc. and take them to our recycling center. Also, turn the water off when you brush your teeth instead of letting it run down the drain!
Thanks for the chance to win your green blog candy.

Congrats and good for you for your Green Hour! I think we all should do this, so I'm going to propose it to my family, that we turn off the power (while we are actually home!) for an hour once a week. We've already switched over to CFBs, and recycle as much as we can.
Wow, what great recycling ideas! I recycle old jars, crystal light containers, plastic tubs, cans, old pill bottles etc... My old magazines & books I sell on ebay.
I have some collection of magazines that I've decided if I don't start selling(can't bring myself to toss:)I'm going to be one of those people that are buried under a mountain of paper. Not a bad way to go lol
Have a great day!

I am all about going green! (Plus it is my favorite color:) I bring my own bags to the grocery store or other places I shop. We recycle everything we can. We just planted our seeds that we are starting in some old egg cartons and this summer we hope to start a compost pile. My husband and I are fortunate enough to be able to commute into town together for work. Congrats on your grand opening!
Hi, love what everyone is doing to go green. I am also saving and reusing everything possible in my crafts, using the cuttlebug, etc. I also use FreeCycle groups to get rid of things around the house I don't need anymore. I love to Flea Market and yard sale and find lots of vintage ribbon and craft supplies there to use as well as household stuff. I have gone to green lightbulbs, cleaning supplies, and make sure all lights are off when not in the room, also unplugging appliances when not in use helps. Thanks for sharing, good luck with your grand opening.
Hi! Your 'greenness' is so cool!
I'm just jumping on this....I'm starting to get reusable shopping bags instead of all those annoying plastic bags that just multiply in the closet! ;)
As far as crafting...reuse everything possible!!!
I've been a green person for many years and have carried that over into my scrapping. People are always kidding me but doesn't stop me from using that stuff.
Can't wait until you open your on-line store.
Hi! A fellow Fiskateer, Lisa Falduto, sent me to this site and I LOVE it!! I wish we did more kinds of things like that in my community!! Thanks for the chance to win somethings "GREEN."
Alex S. Fiskateer 3614
Alright!! Greenies in the papercrafting world!! I, and my friends, were green before green was cool... which means either we're ultra cool, or [something relating to age]
Hi......Lisa Fadulto sent me over to check this out and it is so good to see everyone doing their part going green. We recycle & belong to FreeCycle where you give away things instead of throwing them out.
I would love to be more green. Around here that is hard though, for some reason they don't recycle much here but I do what I can with what they do take. Basically it's glass only and a VERY limited amount of the plastics. And to take it somewhere wouldn't be very green cause I would have to drive over an hour! But I do try to use my littlest scraps of paper and anything else I can use.
Thank you for being such a great example of how to be green!!
We definitely recycle and pull can tabs (donate to the local Ronald McDonald House). I recently changed out most of the light bulbs in the house to florescent. Little things can make a big difference. Thanks for keeping it at the forefront for us and for the great blog candy!

I forgot to say that Lisa Falduto is the one that sent me in your direction!
Me too re: Lisa Falduto
Going Green....we recycle everything we can from can pop, plastic bottles, plastic bags, newspaper etc...we reuse alot of things too like our glass and plastic containers..who says it ain't easy being green..and as far as crafting is concern I use up every scrap I can.heard about this blog from Lisa Falduto!
Have a happy gran opening!!!

Congrats on going Green! I am sure it's really hard for a scrapbook store. We recycle here.
Norma sent me :)
I think what you are doing to help our planet is amazing ! We recycle our cans, bottles, etc., we only run the dishwasher after peak hours, we don't have the tv or radio on for background noise when we are doing something else. We save all our left over bread heels, etc and take them to the park for the ducks and geese. I recycle the packaging things come in, I just made a wall hanging from a K & Co embellishment box, I use all my scraps to make cards and send those cards to www.cardsforheroes.org for the service people to send home to their loved ones.

A fellow Fiskateer, Lisa Falduto, sent me to this site,..great site.
I have recently changed our light bulbs to the new ones. I am recycling cans. Would like to recycle plastic but we do not have any place to take locally.
I have bought bags to use at stores instead of using the plastic bags.
Hey there. Lisa Falduto told me about what you are doing here. I think it's excellent! As paper crafters we use and go through soooo much paper. I've always made sure to recycle all my scraps. I've been aware of the different companies who are going green like Piggy Tales and Creative Imaginations and have tried to support them.
Hi, Jodie K sent me here! Looking forward to your grand opening! This is a great site :)
Jen
roxy-bonds@comcast.net
Cool idea.
Well I bring my own bag when I go shopping, use up as much of my papers as possible (almost all the scraps). Cardboard boxes are used for backing of alter items.
cheers,
June
My stamping pal, Dee Jackson told me to tell you that she linked me here, LOL! I think it is great that you are going green!
Yep, all the things people have mentioned are AWESOME! I also free-cycle. I give away everything that has life left in it to those who want it/need it. I've even free-cycled some craft itmes, but only those I've had in my stash for more than 10 years! (wink, wink). Additionally, we wear clothes more than once, hang clothes to dry, recycle EVERYTHING we can, re-use many items, share clothes throughout the family to the kids who can wear them, and use re-usable bags.
Lisa Falduto sent me over here and I'm glad that she did. There are some great ideas for going green here. Our garbage truck picks up recycling seperate which is great. I've also started using reusable grocery bags from Costco and IKEA. We are moving soon and as tempting as it is to buy boxes, we are finding old ones to reuse instead.
I try to repurpose the packaging that comes into our house. We also recycle cans, glass and cardboard. In the future I would like to make my own canvas bags to do my grocery shopping with.
Thanks so much for the chance to win.
kim3timemom@yahoo.com
Allie, we recycle EVERYTHING! Our garbage men must think we're nuts because we have 10 times more recycle than garbage. :)
Yep, BIG recycler here too!! It only makes sense! Thanks to Lisa Falduto for sending me this way! :)
I am all green and not w/ envy.
Thanks Lisa Falduto for inviting us over.
The fabulous Norma Kennedy sent me here. Yeah for GREEN. It's the new black!
I am definitely a green person I recycle ALL the time. Thanks Lisa Faulduto for inviting me here.
Forgot to tell you that Melanie sent me!! Thanks Melanie!
YAY for going green!! GL with your new store!
Oh yeah, Jodie K sent me here!
It's nice to hear about places being responsible and making simple changes like this. Great ideas!! Jodie sent me over...looking forward to checking out the new online store!
Cant wiat to see the grand opening.. Jodie K sent me the link here!
Congrats on going Green!!!!! Every little step to help save the planet counts! We recycle everything!!!
Oh yeah....and Okies Rock!!!!
Oops!!! Forgot to thank Heidi for sending me this way!!
Thanks girlfriend!!! :-)
That's so awesome!
My hubby and I are trying to think of new ways around our house and in the stamp room to be green. He has always called me a dumpster diver since I love finding things other have thrown away and making something wonderful out of it. One of the ways we have committed to going green is we have taken down our paper towels so we don't automatically reach for them when we spill something. I try to recycle things as often as possible especially cans, plus they make wonderful gifts and coordinating storage with just a little paper and ribbon. I am really enjoying reading other people's ideas.

That is great! Jodie K sent me too and I can't wait to see everything here!
Wow! Great for being green! Thanks Heidi for sending me this link! Have a super grand opening.
I now use cloth bags instead of paper & plastic ones.

Great for going green!
BTW - Jodie sent me!
I try to recycle as much as I can. I love using paper from companies that recycle or have green manufacturing procedures. I print on the back of old flyers from school or events to not use new paper. I save and decorate formula cans, pasta sauces bottles, and clamshell packaging. And I make sure my Girl Scouts follow Leave N Trace principles when camping!
YAY for being green!!!!!!!!!! Jodie sent me :)
I think it's great you are doing your part to protect the Earth! yay for Green! Norma Kennedy sent me...love that girl!

Another fellow Fiskateer, Lisa Falduto, sent me to this site also!
I love your Blog!!
That's so awesome that you guys are going green! I've become more conscious of it myself recently and I must say, it feels good!!!
Thanks for a great site!!
Julia
Way to go on your commitment to help save the earth... Lisa Falduto's blog sent me to check you guys out! Sorry to hear about the delays...
I think what you are doing is so great! I wish more businesses would take the plunge! We have recycled for year and I have been on a campaign with my husband and children for the past 5 years to turn off the lights in rooms they are not in! (it is habit for me) I also recycle many things in my scrapbooking area and alter just about anything I can think of for gifts and goodies!
It is fun to read what everyone is or plans to do!
Every little bits helps in the go green campaign. I recycle nearly everything I can and what I can use on my scrappy pages/project/cards gets put aside for later.
That's really neat that you are making those changes in your store. I applaud you!
Our family has always tried to recycle. And I save ALL my paper scraps for other smaller projects {much to my husband's dismay!}Thanks for the blog candy chance too.
Susan M.
I turn my air up and my heat down when we're not home. I have to constantly follow my oldest teen because if he had his way we'd live in the Arctic throughout the year. Lisa Falduto sent me this way and now I've bookmarked you. :)
Going green is easier than you think! Have bins in the garage for paper, corregated paper, alumimum, newspapers...it will reduce your trash bill!....you will have less in your bins.
Buying a Fridge? Ask for one with the SERP designation after the model number...it is SUPER Energy efficient...Going with a front load washer will half the amount of water you use, get the clothes cleaner and make them last longer as they will be less abused than in regular washers...did I mention it takes only about one half the detergent to clean the clothes?...If you wash dishes by hand wash a bunch and then rinse them all at once...turning the tap off between rinses...
There are also foam insulators you can buy at home warehouses and hardware stores that go around the boxes behind the switch plates to stop loss of heat and cold. They are quite inexpensive. We all know that reducing the thermostat by one degree saves money but did you know that for every TREE you have in your yard (preferably on south and west exposures) you reduce your energy consumption by 3%? And changing the filter REGULARLY ONCE A MONTH will save 2%????
I go green by using old t-shirts made into bags when I go shopping. I have also changed out all the lightbulbs in my house to the CFLs. I take my lunch in a reusable container instead of sandwich bags. I bring the recyclable materials from work home to recycle since our office doesn't have a recycling program. And I save all my paper scraps!
Hello,
I was just on Tresa's blog. That girl is just so creative. Anyway, she send me here. It is great what you're doing and good luck on Grand Opening. I have always recicled but slowly I am trying to be more GREEN. I keep all my scraps of paper. My kids love to use my paper and this way I don't have to let them use "MY" uncut precious paper. I alway try to keep any annesesary lights off and I use energy saver light bulbs too. Slowly but surely I have been replacing all my cleaning items, and I make some myself. It really is NOT that hard to be GREEN. I will be checking this blog often.
Sanela
Lisa Falduto sent me here and I recycle my paper garbage cans, milk bottles ,jars, cardboard but I don't want to have to remember to take a bag with me to get groceries, I have enough trouble hanging on to my lists.
ohhh cant wait to see it!
Jodie sent me!
heard about this on Lisa Falduto's blog! We've started using energy smart ligh bulbs on our house as the old ones burn out we replace them with the new earth friendly ones.
And.. I've added some plants to the shelf to keep the house air purer without the help of any sprays and other chemicals.
Good luck with the new business and congratulations on going green.
Want to thank Tresa Black for sending me your way.
Mary C.
We recycle so much in my home that we make very little trash. Nalgene bottles instead of disposable water bottles; canvas bags instead of paper or plastic in the grocery store; dish towels instead of paper towels--being green is really economical!
Jodie gave me the link to your site. Love it!
Congratulations on your grand opening and for 'going green'. More companies need to be like you! Tresa Black sent me over, and I am so glad she did. Can't wait to see what else you are planning to do!
Wow, it is cool that you are being so green! I am sure that will help a lot. I have been trying to simply recycle more and trying to get the fabric bags from the grocery stores so I can use those over and over instead of their plastic or paper bags.
-Shannon
Opps forgot to mention that Tresa Black sent me over too!!
Came here from Lisa Falduto's blog
I am replacing lights with energy efficient ones and making sure they are off as much as possible. I have converted most of my yard to desert landscaping that doesn't require much water or care.
Thanks

I am excited to hear about this store and the fact that they plan to be "green".
We have changed all of our lights to cfl's, we recycle, we want to start to compost, we use the lights very little and turn off and unplug all unused items and appliances.
Happy to do our part and wish we could do more.
Good luck with store... look forward to checking back in.

hello!! Tresa Black sent me your way!! We currently are making great change in our family as well. Recycling, driving less and buying organic. Thanks for making our planet a better place!! Good luck with your store and staying green!!
Janet
Fist I have to say I was sent here by Lisa Falduto's blog.
So what will I do to stay green - well:
1. ensure we keep recycling all our plastics, glass, aluminium and papers (our local council ensures this is all picked up from the curb so its pretty easy).
2. Change our light bulbs to environmentally friendly ones.
3. Turn things off when not in use
4. Buy things with less wasteful packaging, and for stuff I can't avoid - think of a way to reuse the packaging.
On a scrapbooking way - I use all my scraps so nothing goes to waste, I use the packaging for storing items, or sometimes I even use it in cards or layouts.
Oh and by up large when I go to the scrapbooking stores - supposedly so I make less trips - but we all know they are impossible to resist. LOL

We are using a little solar, making compost for our garden, I try not to throw things out unless I cannot find anything to use the items for. Newspapers are mulch, packing for things being shipped, clothing is given to others or churches, I am going to be making some home made paper now too. I think that will be fun and awsome to make textures.
Thank you for the opportunity and Lisa Falduto sent me to your site a fellow Fisk-A-Teer.
Great to hear that your company is committed to being GREEN. Tresa Black sent me to your blog. :)
And, our family does our part by recycling, using energy-saving lightbulbs, mulching our grass clippings, and many other "little" things that, hopefully, will make a small difference.
Very cool! Heard about you on Lisa Falduto's blog! Go green! :)
Hi!
Tresa Black sent me your way! I am so happy to read about another company going green! It is so important to our earth and I wish everyone would realize how important. I think getting the word out one person at a time and doing the little things will add up to one big thing of saving our earth from global warming.
We try to do our part in being green in our family. Of course we have seperate garbage and recycling containers. We recently added a water filtering faucet for our drinking water, instead of using bottles of water. We also re-use containers for projects. For example we use 2 liter soda bottles, yogurt containers, margerine containers, pop-top cans (opened at the other end), toilet paper rolls and many other items. Every little thing helps....
Thanks for getting us thinking and learning about ways to go green!
AWESOME that your going green!!! Two things I'm passionate about ( Scrappin and spreading the LOVE of GREEN!!!) I look forward to your store opening up. Unfortunately I won't be able to visit in person but will LOVE to have and support you online!!
I heard of your contest from Teresa Black. She is an AMAZING artist, you are VERY lucky to get her!! I look forward to seeing what she puts together with your GREEN goodie box and Jennie's product!!
Good luck and supportive wishes from Jacksonville North Carolina!

What do I do to be green?
I drive a hybrid civic
I recycle my trash
I use low energy light bulbs
I have time set thermostat on my heaters so the heat is set low during the day when we are not home and at night when we are asleep.
I use reusable shopping bags at the grocery store.
I drive slower 60-65 on the highway instead of 75. Saves gas!
And as a scrapbooker, I only print pictures I'm going to use instead of printing every picture I take.
Thanks to Tresa Black for referring me to your site.
Hi - Congrats on your new site and store. Way to GO GREEN.
I help by recycling all my plastic, newspapers, magazines, all pop cans and cardboard. I am always on the lookout for the recycle symbol.
Thanks alot to Tresa Black - the Creative Goddess of Scrapbooking - for sending me your way! Best of luck to you!
i'm trying to use the reusable grocery bags more often (i need more). also, my saying to my family is "don't throw that away, i can use that"! ha ha ha
We have replaced all our light bulbs with floresant, reuse all those wal-mart bags and are faithful to the local free-cycle group. It is amazing how many things you no longer want that are just what someone else is looking for.
Thanks Tresa Black for referring me to your website. Congrats on your new business. I can't wait until your store opens. Go Green!

We already recycle our cans and bottles. And we separate our recyclable trash from non-recyclable trash.
This summer, instead of cooling off the entire house, I'm going to run the portable a/c only in my room during the week.
BTW ... I found my way to Croppinsville via Lisa Falduto's blog.
Hi there! I found your blog from a great friend of mine, Lisa Falduto!
To go green, our family recycles, and we also save all of our grocery bags for other uses around the house, school, etc. We have changed the lightbulbs in our house to more energy efficient ones, and we are always sure to tur off any lights, power we aren't using.
Every little bit helps and we still try to find additional ways to go green!
What a great idea - scrappin Green! I wish you the best of luck and will visit your website often to help support your new store! I learned about your blog from Tresa Black. You couldn't have a more creative person on your design team!
green is the new pink---LOL I take my bags back to the store and place them in a recycle bin. I use lots of things in my scrapbooking /paper crafting. I love the idea of melting down those bags--I'll have to try that trick, too cool as there are some nice color bags out there. I re-use all my packing peanuts and bubble wrap--I have bags of it here I will never have to buy any :-)Juanita

Recyling has always been a biggy for us. I reuse all scrap paper for cards, scrapbook or drawing patterns on. Cans, plastic and cardboard all have special places. Glad to see more people doing this.
Congratulaton on your store!

I am all for the going of green! Its something that I wish to try too! Its neat to see a business doing it as well... if only my bosses weren't so afraid of change! ;)
"Holy Macaroni Batman"
There are a lot of people who are GREEN! Awesome to see.
This is how we recycle:
All recyclables go into the green recycle bin for our local trash dude's to pick up every Tuesday. When I remove Rubber from wood the wood is used for "Something" all the little plastic cups from Crystal light etc. I use for workshops for participant embellishments. All envelopes are blacked out and reused...even for the store. I bought 4 of the Sprouts Green bags and make my hubby use them in the off chance he does groceries...no paper or plastic needed for this family. Any tin goes into my growing tin bin for altered projects. Same as most of you with the left over chipboard. Even those plastic tooth picks/floss I cut the floss off and soak them in alcohol and use them as sticker pickers. "long" story! Hey I want a planet for my "future" grandkids to be born onto!

I think it is great that you have a "green store". I will have to visit your store one day.

We're trying to go green here at home with compact flourescent bulbs, new energy star appliances and I recycle every box that comes through the house. Mail gets shredded and then recycled. Plus we completely shut down all computers and electronics every night, turn lights off during the day. Still there are lots more ways to help be green. But at least we're on a good starting roll. I also love CI and their products. Hopefully moew will follow in their footsteps. Congrats to you and thanks for your commitment to being green. After all these years Kermit was right being green is cool!

DH and I have a "green" background after living on a sailboat in another country for 11 years. We learned so much that we apply to everyday life. First off, I too am a Flea Market Junkie. I use a lot of findings, etc. in my crafting. We also turn off our electronics when not in use, and use only fans to cool the house as much as possible (we live in Tucson AZ). We turn off and unplug all appliances, and we recycle everything possible. I make homemade papers out of the scraps I collect at the LSS and buy recycled products. We also catch rain water and have our washing machine waste flow to our trees. It's a pretty good start and I'm sure there's more to come.
Thank you, Lisa Falduto's blog, for telling me about this site. I'll be back often.
So Glad to hear about your going green efforts. If everyone does oen small thing the world can be a greener place! I heard about this on Lisa Falduto's blog! Thanks for sharing
I heard about this blog post from Lisa Falduto's blog and just had to leave a comment. We went to no longer purchasing cleaners, but use things that everyone has in their kitchens for cooking to also clean with such as vinegar. It not only is cheaper, but it also saves the planet from contaminates.
Tresa Black sent me over, but I have been watching your happenings because I'm on Nina's design team as well. Love your store philosphy and can't wait to see all the rest of what you are up to! Wish I lived near you so I could be a regular.
We do a lot of "green" living, but one that some may not think about is keeping rabbits and other pets to feed food waste too. We use their droppings to feed our landscape plants, garden and fruit trees.
Thought I'd add my two cents!! We do all the usual stuff - recycling paper, glass, cans, use canvas shopping bags etc.
Green crafting: I recycle plastic packaging either as is to create dimensional tags, wall hangings, shaker boxes etc or die cut to make my own ghost letters; small jars (coffee, peanut butter etc) are repurposed for storing embellishments; junk mail business envelopes are great for iris folding strips & background papers; I make cards etc with smaller scraps; save beer bottle caps, labels & stamps for green ephemera (in the UK the real ale bottles have the most fabulous artwork!; use cereal box card to make my templates; remove all labels, buttons, buckles etc from clothes that aren't fit to send to charity & then send them to the rag bank. Save tins (baby formula etc)boxes, ribbon spools, old books & more to be altered (I have a closet full!) & when I have craft materials I know I won't use again I donate them to DS4's school.
Lisa Falduto sent me your way and I'm so glad she did! I've recently been going green myself and am always keen on others who are as well.
We reuse everything at my house and anything that can't be reused by us gets recycled so someone else can reuse it. We buy locally and conserve energy where we can.
Go green!

Hi, Fiskateer Lisa Falduto sent me this way, lov what ur doing, keep up the good work,
I try to recycle as much as I can by reusing anything thats reusable, also I try to encourage others to do the same,
Hi! Lisa Falduto's blog sent me this way. Energy savings are important. I always feel a bit guilty about a long commute but my husband makes sure we save in so many other ways. His garden and our local farmer's market are two of the best ways to save energy. So tasty, too!
Tresa Black sent me here, I'm glad to be getting so many great ideas to save. Thanks
So good to hear about you going Green. I've really made an effort to being more green in the past few months. While scrapping, I try to scrap in natural daylight as much as possible, I save almost all of my scraps and recycle the rest. In addition to saving my scraps - I'm making a new incentive for myself to actually USE them!!! And I'm happy to say that I've made my latest cards ONLY from scraps!!!
I wish you and your new store well! Tresa Black sent me over. With her as part of your design team, you can't go wrong!
Heather :-)
Heard about your GREEN blog from my friend and neighbor Lisa Falduto. I am a jewelry artist and I am in love with paper (when the two collide it is magical, I tell you!). Anyway, I totally appreciate the goal of being green. I am a flea marketeer as well and I love to turn the ideas of what constitute jewelry - and art - upside down! My latest project is a design for a contest where the goal is produce a piece under $25...I did it in under $4! My bracelet features brass washers, vinyl tubing and beautiful origami papers. They look like glass beads with a funky vibe! Thanks for supporting Mother Earth! I will check back again.

I just came over for the 1st time from Fabulously Artsy. I just recently have been more conscious about "Go Green". I have bought Walmart's black (paper or plastic - neither) bags and have been using those when I go shopping. I have also started burning my paper garbage to save on landfill. When I get an area cleaned out I am planning on recyclying plastics and metal. Thanks for the opportunity to win something fun. Good luck!

Lisa Falduto's sent me over here (Thanks Lisa!) - We started buying recycled Paint, i tell you what everyone look around for this stuff in your areas - I get 5gallons for like 30bucks :) I also recycle greeting cards, using the front of them for new cards, and teh sayings too!! Keep up the GREEN GOOD JOB everyone!
Tresa Black sent me - thanks Tresa!
I just started doing my part by buying reusable shopping grocery bags. I used one yesterday and it was great!
We also are working harder at recycling as much of our waste as possible. I even have a recycle box downstairs in my scrap room and I sort all of my scrap garbage instead of tossing it all like I used to.

Love that you're saving our EARTH. I love GREEN. I used velcro diapers for my kiddos, turn lights out all the time, recycle cardboard boxes for artwork, use a handmade carry bag for shopping, never throw any scrap supplies away and use packaging for embellys. Give away what I can't use. Create what isn't for sale and eat organic greens. Tresa B sent me over here from CTMH. Best Wishes on your store!

And son walks home from school instead of vehicle transportation. He's gotten healthier and the air is more clean!
We already recycle at our house...but I am trying to get my girls to voice their opinions (in a nice way) outside of the home... For example: If you are on a committee at school that is soliciting paper products for a function, re-iterate that you would like PAPER, not styrofoam if possible, to be kinder to the earth.... Their teachers support the effort, but sometimes you have to grin and bear it when trying to NOT look the gift horse in the mouth...ya know.
I am just happy they are aware and at least try to share the knowledge!
Lisa Falduto sent me! =) So cool that you chose to go green. If more and more of us do the same, maybe we can make our precious earth and resources last longer for future generations!
Oops! My bad, I didn't tell you what we do. I do save my paper scraps to use on other projects later. I save plastic containers to reuse as long as they can be used. I compost fruit and vegetables in the woods behind my house when they've gone bad or no one wants to eat them. I like to save quirky shaped cardboard, plastic or heavy paper containers and recraft them with paint and patterned paper. I don't let the water run unnecessarily when brushing my teeth and limit the family showers to less than 5 minutes. Still, Lisa Falduto sent me! (hee he)
I am also a scrap saver and I use them on cards or mini LO's. We also recycle just about everything in our house and take reusable containers to work for lunch instead of using the styrofoam they provide. Every little bit helps - thanks for the cool RAK. (Lisa sent me)
Becoming green is a hard concept for my kids...but we're working on it! We are working on turning off lights when we aren't in the room.. unplugging electronics when not in use... It's something small, but it'll add up!
I got your blog info from Lisa Falduto's blog. This looks like a fun place! Thanks!
Green rocks! I love using parts of plastic packaging or cardboard boxes in my projects. :)
I love all the green ideas! We recycle just about anything possible - right down to the tubes toilet paper comes on! I found your blog on Tresa Black's blog and I'm excited to see what's in store for us at YOUR store!
Best of luck on your grand opening!
Katherine
I'm so glad to hear of more people being green!! I used to get laughs for having cloth napkins for meals but it's a lot greener and now I don't get the chuckles as much anymore. LOL. We do a lot of the usual in turning off lights throughout the house when it's daytime or when we're not in the room and we do plastic, glass, & aluminum recycling with our weekly trash pickup. We've started using the better light bulbs and I can't wait to replace all of them. We also are re-users of containers and cardboard/chipboard and packing materials and boxes we receive. I'm hoping to get a hybrid vehicle in the next 5 years and we've started shopping everywhere with reusable cloth shopping bags. I'm also going to get some inexpensive reusable cups & plates & utensils for my scrapbook classes.
Good luck on your grand opening!! Thank you for doing lots to help keep our planet nice for future generations.
Oh, and Tresa Black's blog sent me this way. Love it!

To start, I am slowing down to conserve gas! Also, I have been replacing my lightbulbs. Fun blog! Thanks!
We do lots of things in our household to keep it green and there is so much more we can do. Thanks for all the great tips! One thing we do is re-use gift bags, ribbons, etc. It seems there is a constant gift flow happening - whether you are giving or receiving. I save everything and either "re-gift" them or use them for making cards, crafts, etc.
Thanks to Tresa Black for sending me to this site! :)
Andrea
We try to do as much as we can around here--recycle everything, bring our own bags (new to this), turn on only necessary lights, etc. In my scrap room, I save and use all my scraps and try not to throw much away. I also re-use cans/bottles as fun altered gifts. How exciting to find this site--Thanks Tresa Black for sending me this way :)
Lisa F. sent me here. You have a great blog, lots of information. Trying to learn to be green, but years of habit are hard to break
Norma sent me here! (Congrats, Norma!)
Way to go with your "going green"!! Of course I recycle ALL of my scraps...and we do other things here and there. We live in a small town and unfortunately the options are pretty limited :(
Good Luck with everything!!

I go green by using the new canvas bags at the grocery store, when smoking I have an ashtray in the car and I recycle all my paper! Thanks Marcie for sending me over!
Hey there! I love the idea of a "green" scrapbook store! That is very clever! Lisa Falduto's blog sent me here and she is a VERY talented person! I think you 2 together will produce some AWESOME projects! I will follow the "green" and hopefully find out more on what we can do to help!!
Hi! Congrats on a new store!!
Lisa Fadulto sent me over - thanks Lisa!
I love the whole flea-market world...I've been "green" for years shopping at thrift stores, recycling all kinds of household things. I find a huge variety of recycled things that fit into my Bind-it-all for journal covers. I also donate a lot of my scraps to the local elementary school, women's shelters, and church groups rather than throw away what I'm not going to use anymore.
Congrats again.
Cathy
Well, we've been doing a ton of things for a long time...after all, my husband and I met in Athens, Georgia--home of REM and all that earthiness. We recycle--and not just what gets picked up, either, but the big stuff that has to be driven out to the creepy recycling center. We compost too. It's much easier than it sounds. Just put it in the compost bin and it all disappears. No turning or anything. In the winter it melts the snow all around it! Crazy! In the summer you can hear it--all the worms squishing around in there. My pet rats eat a lot of left-over food that's still fresh. :) We don't have a garbage disposal (too much wasted water) or a lawn (it's more of a managed meadow), and no kids (helping with zero-population growth--making up for those who go over their 2.) We have a car with good gas milage though big enough to evacuate all of our animals in an emergency. We adopt all of our animals instead of buying (pet overpopulation effects the environment negatively too) and keep our cats indoors so they don't bug the wildlife. I am a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. One of the things you can do that can reduce your carbon blueprint even *more* than switching from a gas guzzling SUV to a compact hybrid for the rest of your life is choosing to go vegan. Eating/wearing animal products is extremely wasteful of water and other resources (it takes more than a pound of grain to make a pound of cow or eggs) and is far more humane as well. Anyway, it's a choice we've made and we're definitely foodies! After 16 years of being vegetarian (Scott has been even longer) and 13 of those, vegan, we wouldn't trade it for a rare filet mignon with bernaise (I didn't quite meat because it doesn't taste good...) any day! Something new I'll do? I really could be better at making sure I use appliances like the dishwasher during low-use hours the electric company recommends. I refuse to stop flushing every time I go though. That just crosses a line... ;)
Thanks for all you are doing to make your business so ethical. Great job! I'm glad I was referred to your site by Lisa Falduto's blog so I could check you guys out. Now, how about opening a store here in Raleigh, NC!
