Day 8 - 25 Days of Giveaways - Share a Recipe

Almost as much as I LOVE to EAT!!!

To be entered into today's drawing, please share your favorite Holiday cookie or sweet recipe.

Here's the easiest thing ever, and it's always good:

You'll need White Chocolate Bark, Candy Canes, and some muffin liners (I like to use silicone ones and reuse them over and over again.)

One ounce of chocolate bark will make two treats.

Smash your candy canes. I've used a food processer, a magic bullet, and for a little therapy - smashing in a bag with a rolling pin! Make sure your bag is thick skinned. TEE HEE.

Melt your chocolate in the microwave, 30 seconds to one minute at a time, stirring in between, til it's pourable - just don't make more than you have room for. I melt 6 ounces and make 12 treats. Pour in your candy canes, as much as you'd like, and stir it up, then quickly pour a little into each cup.

You can also spread this out on lined baking sheet and break into pieces.

So, c'mon ... now that you're hungry, share your favorite holiday treat recipe.

Sometimes when I was younger, I baked holiday cookies with my mom, or went to my Aunt's house, where holiday baking was a MAJOR undertaking with SPECTACULAR results.

My mom passed away about ten years ago, and I haven't been to my Aunt's house for baking time since I was around 20.

Now, I thought it was time to start a new holiday tradition, so I've invited several friends over to help me jump start the holiday baking. We're making chex mix (2 kinds!), cookies, and peppermint bark.

Day 3 of 25 Days of Giveaways - Roof over your Head Day

Welcome to DAY THREE. I'm really enjoying reading everyone's stories.

It's time for a challenge. Today is National Roof-Over-Your-Head Day. It happens every year on December 3. It is a day of appreciation for the things we have, starting with the roof over our heads.

For most of us, a roof over our head signifies living in a house that protects us from the elements, keeping us warm, dry, and cozy. Unfortunately, not everyone is as lucky as you and I. There are many homeless people right here in our country. Some people live in a cardboard box on the street...... literally. There are millions of people around the world who live in poverty or disaster areas, and do not have a home to kees them comfortable and safe.

Spend a few minutes appreciating your roof and home today, along with the many things you have. It's a day that we should remember to help others to come in out of the rain.

Do something for the homeless this month. Cherish the roof over your head!
This is an honor system, so share what you've done, and I'll take it on faith.
Volunteer, donate $$, bring food to a shelter, take socks and sweaters or blankets. There are a lot more homeless out there this year. The homeless include children, brothers, sisters, grandparents. There are now nearly ONE MILLION homeless CHILDREN in this country!!! 400,000 school aged children were served by the public schools last year. That doesn't count children to young, or those not reporting.

P.S. Today I spoke at a local lunch. I was shocked and disappointed to learn that last year, 50 ANGELS went unadopted on our local Christmas Trees. That's 50 kids without presents. If you want to help but you're too busy, if you need a shopper - we'll shop for you if you would like to adopt an ANGEL this holiday season. E-mail me!

Happy Chanuka everyone! I can't help but giggle, because I'm thinking of Adam Sandler's EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS.

Chanuka is an eight day holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Macabbean Revolt in 2nd Century, BCE.

The festival is observed by lighting a special candelabrum, the Hanukiah or 9-branched Chanuka Menorah, one light on each night of the holiday, progressing to eight on the final night. An extra light, called the shamash (Hebrew for guard or servant) is also lit each night for the purpose of lighting the others, and is given a distinct location, usually above or below the rest.

Chanuka derives from a Hebrew verb meaning to dedicate. The name can be broken down into "חנו", from the Hebrew word for encampment, and the Hebrew letters כ"ה, which stand for the 25th day of Kislev, the day on which the holiday begins: Hence, the Jews sat in their camp, that is, they rested fighting, on the 25th day of Kislev.

Here are my swaps. I'm DONE! I have a swap that begins next year, an Exquisite Corpse swap, and I need to make cards and gifts for the holidays still, but the commitments are DONE. I am a little excited, and looking forward to some very sinful lazing around the house this weekend. I don't even have to cook this year! Thanks, Betty.

About the swaps, one page was done for a friend whose father had passed. She contacted me to get in touch with the hostess and I was feeling so bad for her - I knew she had been working on them when her father became ill, and just needed to spend time with him, and then when I learned that he had passed and she was dropping out, so I volunteered to take her place. This way, she spends time with her family, but still enjoys her calendar. She asked why I would do this for her, and all I could think of, well ... it was all I could think of to DO for her, because she lives too far for me to give her a hug or help in any other way.

If you have any questions about these projects, or getting involved in a swap, please let me know. I look forward to lots of ARTFUL swaps in 2010.

Free Croppin' at Croppinsville

In order to help you get your Christmas Projects done, we will be opening our Crop area to you at NO charge throughout December.

We are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. In December, we will be staying open til 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Please RSVP to reserve your table. Tables are first come, first serve. Tables may be shared - we do have extra chairs. We'll have lots of our tools out, along with Christmas stamps and ink, our Cricut, and other fun things to try. We are sure you will have a wonderful time visiting and creating.

We will not be serving drinks and snacks during our Free Croppin' time, but you are welcome to bring in your own.

Welcome Baby

There was a Friday Tutorial at 2 Peas today, and I made my own version of this card.

I cut Welcome and the Giraffe on the Cricut.
Zoo Balloo Cartridge - Welcome is 2" and the Giraffe is 4". I also cut shadows - same size settings.

The shadow of Welcome was run through my Cuttlebug, to give it a little dimension.

I added Bronze Stickles to the giraffe's horns (antlers?) and pop dotted him.

Baby is matted on a scalloped oval that I punched out using my Fiskars Extra Large Cameo Appearance. Baby, the word, was die cut with a Sizzlit.

The card is one of our AccuCut specialty invitations that we call the Scallop, and I added a square window with an extra 2" die.

Around the edges I did some doodling with a White Inkessentials Pen.

I made up some kits, and die cut Baby in pink or the teal color, so the Happy Crafter can personalize it, if they know what if baby is a boy or girl. If you would like a kit, please let me know.

Fun!

Well, we are sans croppers tonight, so I am heading home - picking up pizza - watching a movie with my family tonight.

Lately, I've been realizing, that for me, there needs to be a way to capture little stories that can either be made into scrapbook pages, or not. There needs to be a way to fill in those gaps for which there might not be a full-blown 2-page spread that took me 4 hours. But that is a story worth telling nonetheless.

I'm confident that I'm not the only person out there in this situation. So that's why I developed this class. We ALL have stories. And whatever way it is that we choose to tell them, we all need a way of capturing them first. So that's where Stories in Hand comes in.
In our week-long, instructor-led class, we will learn:

Techniques for capturing memories from our own lives and from others
Dozens of prompts for stories you might have forgotten
A cool system for capturing the stories happening in your life right now, AND for listing the stories you have yet to tell
Technologies you can use to help you gather your stories together with photos, video, your blog, or any other media you have that gives a peek into your lifeAnd we will make a REALLY CUTE project! (You’ll find out the supply list when you register).

You are not required to have Photoshop to complete the project.
Oh yeah, by the way, this class is COMPLETELY FREE.

I took a quick vacation with my favorite man - that loving husband of mine - (I had gotten him RUSH tickets for our Valentine Anniversary) - and we hopped a late flight to Vegas Friday. I spent a lot of time people watching - when we weren't rockin' away at the concert. I watched employees at the casinos, and I watched customers, etc. I wondered about the customer service - mainly where it's gone!

If you have become a regular here you may know - we ran a poll - what was most important to you, the customer - percent off, low prices, free shipping, or free stuff. The main winners were low prices and free shipping. We were already planning that - and I was really pleased to get the customer input, feedback and confirmation. Your opinion really counts at this hometown business! Some of the things we have in mind - no special cards - we installed a rewards system - ALL your purchases go towards rewards - when you hit a dollar amount - I set it to give you a 25% OFF shopping spree. And that has no strange limitations - you can use it whenever you like. And then, the rewards start all over again! And shipping - here was my thought (because it's just gotten MO' expensive - FREE with your $60 order. Well, tain't Chicken tonight. It's Vita Bella. I received an e-mail about a survey from My Little Yellow Bicycle. They wanted help from retailers. Okay, do I have you all excited?

Can I share some not so great news? Our Brick 'n Mortar GRAND OPENING is delayed. Yesterday they ripped out not only our sidewalk (too much air?) but the whole block - it was just poured last week! We just can't open with gravel out front... Looks like a two week delay. We're so SORRY! But our Dot 'n Com - CROPPINSVILLE.COM is coming along - Tony sez the curtains might even come up early!

Don't be sad, we'll have even more goodies for ya. Okay, pass me a tissue, I'm crying for joy out of one eye, and sniffing for sadness on the other side. Bear with us, giving birth to this baby shop is a roller coaster ride. Hang on! It's gonna be fun. I promise!
